@magneticnorth, Internet is like any habit. Get away from it for a few days, maybe a week or two, and then it's like you never miss it!! Of course the trick is not returning to work after that week or two.

The cartoon is not too far from might very well be in the future.  Did not want to consider this frighten potential reality but it is surely on it's way - if it is not already here in a very subtle form.

@SethBreedLove: thanks for the link. I laughed when read this line:

If kids go a day (or several) without being online, their world will not come to an end (that goes for you, too).

LOL! Sometimes, we adults need to hear it too.

Not too worried

Though I do agree with this cartoon as to where are culture is headed, I'm oddly not too worried about the implications.  The most important thing is that kids have a normal childhood with as little technology interference.  Sure, they're going to watch TV and play video games, but they should also play scrabble instead of words with friends.  Let all the tech clutter up their lives in their awkward teenage years so they can learn social skills with more of a security blanket.

@SethBreedlove -- smartphone as social crutch. Interesting. I'm heading to a conference next week and will be watching for this phenomenon.
