It can be tough to get buy-in for time spent on analytics. Extra cost associated with a new project takes proof (which can be tough to gather without time).

@Terry. Good point about ideas for analytics having to prove themselves more than proposed cloud and mobile security initiatives when it comes to budget. Cloud providers can give a company hard numbers for savings for a move to the cloud (even if those numbers have all the substance of a real cloud), and mobile security is a "save your company" concept. Both will get the attention of the CEO, CFO, and board.

Analytics is more of a one-step-at-a-time thing. You prove the value of analytics on one small project, and leverage what you learned to do a somewhat larger project next month or next year. Even the case studies for the most successful analytics-driven companies reveal that it's about turning a battleship around. It takes time.

Despite the power and efficacy of analytics, it's less of a slamdunk for an automatic increase than, say, cloud computing or mobile security for most businesses.

For the most part, analytics still has to prove itself upfront. It's a harder sell to get a bigger budget for analytics than other IT spending categories.

My experience with most tech firms is that they are still just trying to hold on to what they have rather than making large investments.  There are incremental improvements mostly because they are forced to move ahead as older technology becomes obsolete.

For those that answered bump tell us what is driving your incremental funding

Flat, but workable.

I chose flat, but workable. Investing in analytics isn't high priority right now. I don't know of there is a plan to invest more heavily or not.
