NO RATINGS

..

I voted that social media helped.  Maybe not decisively, but, judging from news reports and the statements of law enforcement, information via social media did provide some help, especially photos sent via Twitter.

Twitter investigation

NO RATINGS

I would guess that Twitter and Facebook helped investigators once they'd identified the suspects. From those streams they could have learned where they suspects were before and after the explosions, who they were friends and families with, and possibly if they'd given an indication of where they were headed next (as in, next potential targets). But did that take analytical work or did it just require reading through the tweets and posts? I'm guessing the latter. The former might come into play more as they dig into the whys of the bombings and trying to determine a psychological profile, etc.
