Thanks, @Candido! I also like the way Al Gore painted the picture in An Inconvenient Truth. At the time, the idea of spelling out the vision as the starting point seemed like one of those basic facts that are easy to take for granted or even lose sight of as we get busy doing triage on the day-to-day of our jobs. But the speaker presented the point so simply and eloquently that it struck me as one of those basics that are also good to be reminded of every now and again.

I enjoy the first point the most. This orients the audience and gets them ready for any points you are about to make, backed by data of course. While he may not be a CMO, Al Gore does this excellently in An Inconvenient Truth, explaining things for anyone to understand, but with the necessary back up.
