NO RATINGS

Hi @Broadway,

Interesting thought - I understand where you're coming from but I don't see analytics and big data as the same thing. To me big data is a catch-all term for the opportunity presented by the digitization of everything, whereas analytics present the means to realize those opportunities.

It might seem like splitting hairs a bit, but there's quite a bit of material in both topic areas, and I felt it important to treat the topics separately. My motivation is primarily because different people and organizations are at different places in terms of recognizing and coming to terms with big data, and also in terms of maturity in the use of analytics. Does that make sense?

Thanks!  JB

And isn't the central conceit of this blog slightly off? Instead of 5 trends of 2013, it's really just 4? Aren't analytics and big data synonymous at this point?

Look, nothing is for free. So in the current model you either pay for it by being bombarded with ads or you pay a premium to avoid that annoyance.

It will be interesting to see how it all evolves. Right now, with the vast majority of web content being offered up for "free," we'll probably have to put up with some of those annoyances (like commercial messages on TV)...

The only thing I want to change going forward in 2014 is digital marketing. Digital marketing is becoming an annoyance on the web, forcing you to watch commericals before watching a web clip, big banners that if you accidently roll over them they start playing a trailer, and even apps on your phone that show you ads everytime you use it.

I totally agree @Alexis. It's certainly of interest to me, so I'll be writing more about it in 2014!

Cheers!  JB

Customer experience is increasingly important. I predict lots of movement in this space this year.
