It's a great way for hospitals to improve their efficiency by offering the services that are truly needed tin their community. The other key factor would be balancing the demand for services with the number of providers available in the community to determine underserved needs.

I agree. Standardized and regularly published. I'd like to know more about my community's health beyond "Oh, you know its flu season."

Our Florida County Health Departments seem pretty up to speed on the community health reporting requirements. I regularly read the lenghty reports and while there's a lot of interesting statistics on perceived strenghts and weaknessess of the health system at the county level, it's not so clear how valid the stats are because of various reporting and collection issues. Perhaps a more standardized systems of data collection would help?

When I head to the doctor's office, I typically have my issue diagnosed, and then I;m on my merry way. The doctor may ask a couple of questions about my latest health choices as an update, but rarely do other individuals enter the equation that stands between the doctor and I.

Should there be an emphasis on community health? Knowing what trends are arising in your neighborhood would perhaps make the advice to drink more water and get more exercise feel more dire?
