@ Jamescon, with mind reading technology, I'm sure Google knew I was going to post anyway...or maybe they put it in my brain with out me knowing it?

I remember that sequence as well, chapAnjou. The other visual cliche I've come to loathe on TV and in movies is the LED timer on the bomb/nuclear device/airlock. SO TIRED. Please find a more original way to try and build tension (use violins or a Trent Reznor composition).

@Terry,

Hahaha, so true! I think the best visualization of hacking ever was, appropriately enough, from the movie "Hackers".  Anytime anyone hacked in that movie, the movie depicted it as some random first person view of floating through cables like it was some kind of video games.

Who knows how many hackers were turned onto the whole scene from that movie only to realize how boring the whole process is in reality haha.

@Maryam dramatizations of analysitcs or math applied to crime, etc., always make it seem a lot faster and surer than it is in real life.

Sane I have to agree while I love that a show wants to bring data terminology to the mainstream at times they make it more magical than the reality which can cause issues for those in the data profession. The Hollywood reality may not be achievable in the real world so we need to be careful.

@Seth. I was going to ask you not to share that suggestion with Google about a Google-based dating service. However, I realized that they probably already saw it.

Also consider that got him there in the first place.  He was a genius programmer who couldn't manage his life and was socially inept so he traded his soul for a job.   One thing I do have to say about that character is I'm surprised they made his character so bold in some instances.  In most cases the really techie guys are shut ins who are afraid of their own shadows.  I can see analysts being cast the same way, super nerds who live vicariously through their data but are afraid to step out into the real world.  You have to love Hollywood.

@Broadway, I mean that the shows mentioned sound like they are painting analytics as some form of magic that only super nerds can master.  Not only do they master it but they take it to levels that are so far from reality that it makes you wonder where they came up with the script.  The crime shows involving enhancing security camera footage are one of my favorites and have caused some funny conversations around here.

Blacklist was at the top of my favorite shows last season, but the opener this year didn't quite do it for me. Maybe it was the unreality of how big data was portrayed. I little bit of fantasy is good, but when they go over the top as I think they did in the opener, it's just a time for me to move on to another show maybe.

I've often thought that if the NSA sent a secret agent my way, I would be totally dubbed because they have access to everything about via Google.  What I like, my political beliefs, my dating preferences and of course, my favorite T.V. shows and how much I watch.

That's it, maybe Google should start a dating service that is based on your web profile.  That would be a lot more honest that a survey.  Or e-Harmony could partner up with the NSA.
