I tend to agree with you about "malleability" - I basically dismissed it in my post without really evaluating or commenting on it.  I'm not sure how you'd measure it even it it were a real variable, which I'm not quite convinced it is.  It sounds plausible, but maybe it has more to do with your size and stature within your industry, and is not a characteristic of the industry itself.  My other take is more cynical - that a consulting firm needed a 2x2 matrix, so they forced a second dimension.

Interesting that maliability is a dimension for agile strategy.  Not 100% sure how companies view that concept, but addressing it when considering a current strategy status would encourage more consideration of it, and even more important, how to rectify it.
