@Louis On th elighter side, here's an example of someone having fun with the freedom to write in captions that don't have to match the video. Be sure the turn CC on to get the full effect.

<It does add an interesting angle though, could an analytics company leverage the fact that improved machine based CC will benefit a specific portion of the population to get funding and better backing?>
@SaneIT Good question. I always thought CC's primary function was to make video programs accessible to the hearing impaired, though I know that some people like the captions if they have difficulty comprehending what is said when spoken with certain accents.

I'm really glad that so many people brought up the hearing impaired. I hadn't even thought about it that way. If I knew someone who depended on CC while watching YouTube I'd be warning them now that the world isn't as crazy as YouTube makes it seem. It does add an interesting angle though, could an analytics company leverage the fact that improved machine based CC will benefit a specific portion of the population to get funding and better backing?

" ....For a minute I thought I was receiving subliminal messages about going to war with Korea. The talk had nothing to do with either. I'd think twice before following the advice of a system picking keywords out of YouTube videos after laughing through that."
@SaneiT That's funny ! I would hate to be dependent upon it - I really feel for those in society that must . The hearing impaired and others who might feel the need to use this questionable aid.

@SaneIT You make some great points about Video Data Mining which I was inclined to vote for - your examples expose the very issue the industry will probably have to deal with for years to come.

A good idea providing crowd sourcing can be designed to get enough data from the correct crowd. That's always more diffiult done that said. There problems in sampling smaller groups and even larger ones in getting fair representation of views in order to see what's really being recommended or hope for by those responses I would think.
