Thanks Lewis - I think regardless of the name, the position will be as instrumental as the influence it yields on an enterprise's financial performance.

Personally I think officer is better. Given the challenges professionals have in convincing management in investing in analytics and data, the word "officer" has enough weight to let people know the gravity that the decisions should have.

I would like to think a CDO in certain enterprises would be necessary, but I don't think it necessary for every enterprise.   It really bothers me that corporations feel the need to add more managerial layers and titles to their already overloaded title based management structures.

How about simply Chief Analyst ?   All of this "officer business" is just an appeal to the vain.
