"And getting the "story" about the advantages of IoT is certainly going to be a challenge because of some of the novel uses it's surely going to be utilized."

There also comes in the challenge of identifying the advantages that are directly attributable to IoT which is usually never the case. Unlike advantages, costs are directly attributable to IoT which makes the challenge of making a feasibility even more difficult.

I agree. By giving new prespectives, Robert Allison gets his graphs to speak 1000 more words.

... the recent surge in analytic technologies becoming more approachable is key. The special ingredient in that trend is visualization and analytics joining forces in ways we have never seen before. Why is this happening? Seeing and understanding data is richer than creating a collection of queries, dashboards, and workbooks.

Pierre, yes gathering attention is important. The content however should be so targetted that the user feels it was made for him and triggers sales. Storytelling helps further in relating your own experience with the one being told and helps in getting customers onboard with similar stories.

It is important to get ownership of creative visionaries when starting an analytics project. If they are firm on a particular decision, analytics might not be able to change them. If they are flexible, the team of data scientists and creative visionaries would do wonders.

@Pierre,

I think storytelling is agreat way to communicate the data. And I fully agree about context becoming a much more relivent issue as we continue to move forward connecting other devices to the Internet of Things, it will really help to enrich the IoT experience.

Storytelling is a great way to frame the context around data. Context will be important, as the IoT expands its reach into non-traditional computerized devices. I think it will also alter how ad spend is conducted - less emphasis on keywords, more emphasis on gathering attention. That can be good and bad for the industry - renewed purpose for digital advertising but increased awareness that ads interfere with the customer experience AKA the story.
