You've accepted it, but do you wish the industry would advance into database-driven recording?

A Terry, I don't think I've ever worked in a situation where at least one person didn't insist on having something in Excel spreadsheet form becuase there is always a few that don't know to use a database.  I've come to accept that is okay because not everyone can be a programmer and so on.

Ha! Bravo, CandidoNick. I applaud your challenge to data scientists everywhere and would love to see somebody agree to a 30-day, Excel-free period and force their analytical brains (or their entire organizations) to present their data/argue their case using different methods or tools.

That does seem to have always been the case, no matter how hard I try it seems my data hits a spreadsheet eventually.

Without some serious foundation knowledge, which requires education, there is no reason to expect people to understand the distinction.

There is no such education anymore.

I implore data experts to try and implement a no-Excel (or Google Spreadsheets!) policy for one project. I wonder if results would be affected.

At least R-tables PRESENT relations; Excel spreadsheets do not do even that.

For a long time and even today they have inhibited understanding the important differences between databases and spreadsheets.

I am all for thinking outside the box (Excel boxes to be specific). Recorded data seems to always have been a spreadsheet at some point in its life.
