Part of the appeal for NASA in terms of strategic planning is that a spaceship of any sort is an engineered product. Engineered products require managing resources well to execute.  And NASA's efforts require more than that for typical transportation.  Their experiences, while not necessarily commercial (which Bezo and Musk are changing), have been developed over decades.  They are anologous to Mercedes-Benz, which has heritage to the first gas powered automobile.

It is likely that all organizations can learn lessons from NASA and KSC aboiut strategic planning. It's amazing how such acheivements probably would not have been possible without it.

Considering that "One of the biggest complaints you hear from leadership is that, "80% (or whatever your number is) of our people cannot articulate our strategy," it should be clear for all that communication and integration of all the units in planning is crucial for success.
