The European Union consumer online privacy law, GDPR, is coming in less than a year now, and many organizations are counting down the time and trying to get everything in order before the May 2018 deadline.
Organizations are taking compliance seriously because the penalties imposed by this consumer protection and privacy law -- the one that gives people "the right to be forgotten" -- are stiff. They are 4% of annual revenue for violators.
GDRP is an acronym that stands for General Data Protection Regulation and it's designed to give control of personal data back to individuals and take it out of the hands of the companies that collect it for commercial use.
It doesn't matter where your company is based. If you have customers who are in Europe or who may be in Europe, this law applies to you.
To help you get ready for this big change, AllAnalytics radio is welcoming Todd Ruback to the show. Ruback is Chief Privacy Officer and VP of Legal Affairs at Evidon, a firm that helps other companies with data compliance efforts. He holds privacy certifications as a CIPP-US/E and CIPT through the International Association of Privacy Professionals. Prior to Evidon, he was head of the privacy and technology practice at the law firm of DiFrancesco, Bateman, Coley.
